Bare metal instances best practices and FAQs

info

Bare metal instances are currently only available for AccelByte Gaming Services (AGS) Private Cloud customers.

Overview

This page outlines best practices and frequently asked questions (FAQs) for managing bare metal instances in AccelByte Multiplayer Servers (AMS).

Best practice

To handle cases when traffic exceeds the capacity of the bare metal dedicated servers, AccelByte recommends using a cloud provider fleet as a backup. Running multiple fleets for the same game—one for baseline traffic and another for burst capacity—allows for better management of fluctuating demand. Additionally, you can use claim key session configurations to prioritize traffic to the appropriate fleet, ensuring that high-priority requests are handled promptly.

important
  • Make sure to configure the session template to support this setup.
  • Both the bare metal and cloud fleets should contain the same claim key that matches the claim request, either by matching the client version or one of the claim keys specified in the session template. Ready dedicated servers in the bare metal fleet will be claimed with higher priority.

For more information about managing dedicated servers in AMS, refer to the AMS service guide.
