Sync Steam lobbies

Last updated on November 6, 2026

Overview

This feature is related to AGS Session. For more details, see Introduction to Session. To set up Steam lobby sync, see Configure native session sync.

info

If you sync AGS sessions to Steam lobbies, you do not need to change anything on the game client.

AGS Session service reads the pa_id claim from each member's AGS token and creates one Steam lobby for each App ID among the Steam members of a session. You do not need a session template or match pool for each app.

Players from the same app

In most cases, players who invite and join each other through the Steam UI play the same app. The session has one Steam lobby, and nothing is different from a single-app namespace.

Players from both apps in one session

This is an edge case. It can happen when your game uses the AGS built-in invitation to bring players of different apps into one AGS session. For example, a player invites a friend from the friends list in the game client, and the friend runs the other app.

A Steam lobby cannot hold players of different apps. AGS does not have this limit, so the players share one AGS session, but each app gets its own Steam lobby. Each player receives the lobby of their own app.

note

A player who relaunches under the other app gets the App ID of the new login. AGS takes it from the token when the player creates or joins a session.
